Chiropractic Care Q & A

Does chiropractic care address more than back pain?

Yes! A chiropractic adjustment can improve blood flow to many areas of the body as well as increase peripheral nerve function. Individuals who have hip and knee pain may get comfort from a pelvis and lower back adjustment. Individuals who suffer from migraines may find comfort with a neck and thoracic adjustment. While back pain is a primary cause for people to seek a chiropractor's care, an adjustment can help eliminate inflammation and pain from many areas of the body. Bringing the body back into a state of balance will help to relieve pain and discomfort in many different areas.

How many adjustments are needed?

The longer an injury or illness has affected the body, the more adjustments the body could need to return it back to a state of balance. While the first adjustment may last for a very short time, the more adjustments the person receives, the longer the muscles and connective tissues will retain the memory. Once the relief from adjustments begins to last for longer periods of time, the time between adjustments may be increased. The stronger the body becomes, the faster it will begin to heal. With a severe injury, numerous adjustments may be needed, but with each adjustment comes a stronger healing response.

How do chiropractic adjustments affect the muscles?

The goal of a chiropractic adjustment is to return the body to it’s proper balance. Proper balance can reduce improper stress on muscles and connective tissue. A light-tissue massage prepares the muscles and connective tissues before the adjustment to help elicit a complete healing response. Reducing abnormal tension on the muscles will improve their ability to support the bone structures. Your bones require muscles and connective tissue for support and your muscles can’t function without their connections to your bones. They work together, so both are treated and heal together.
